FHIR-Based Interoperability Challenge: An Assessment On Healthcare Payers And Providers Readiness

Summary

Sharing cilinical dataacross the healthcare value chain has been a challenge because of varying data formats, systems, and complex regulatory requirements that are currently in play. With Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Standards – which is a successor to HL7—a new era is about to be launched that will make data interoperable across the value chain. This will set the stage for the emergence of new business models, improved care, faster financial transactions and patient satisfaction. The key is to be ready with the required infrastructure and systems to meet the FHIR compliance readiness requirements by January 1, 2021. What is the approach you, as a payer, should take to meet the deadline?

What is in it?

The goal for payers should be to quickly align with the requirements of Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Standards  and transform data exchange to next generation standards between themselves and other entities such as providers, patients, regulators and organizations authorized to provide data analytics. This paper explains the interoperability requirements, helps assess payer readiness for the transformation and provides cloud-based solutions they can confidently implement with the assistance of ITC Infotech, to become FHIR compliant.
