Our customer is an international, market leading speciality plastic and fibre products supplier listed on the London Stock Exchange. Our customer is a well invested global business with 36 manufacturing facilities, 42 distribution units and sales offices, and four research facilities spread across 24 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Our customer employs more than 4,700 people across the world.

Our customer operates in a dynamic international market environment and continues to invest in expanding capacity and capability, to improve operational performance and customer service, and to exploit new business opportunities.

Business Need

Our customer lays great emphasis on Health & Safety (H&S) aspects and the employees’ safety is high priority in all sites across the world. To manage various H&S activities, our customer had designed custom Excel templates which were being used to capture information about any particular site’s H&S activities. As the sites were located in different parts of the world and people of varied languages were involved, multilingual translations of the artifacts was a prime concern.

Also, consolidation of data across various sites and preparation of Board reports at the Head office was a very tedious task and used to take almost 80 percent of the H&S manager’s time.

How We Helped

ITC Infotech was approached to come up with a solution that would be multilingual compliant and would have the capability to consolidate data across sites. A web based intranet portal was proposed that would operate in a secured VPN network of our customer. This ensured that various users across sites could view the information in their own languages and also could enter data in different languages. Apart from the multilingual translations, the proposed solution also catered to the consolidation of data at the Head Office and eased generation of reports that could be sent to the Board.

A prototyping approach was proposed where in each and every feature was prototyped and several brain storming sessions were conducted to ensure all user requirements were catered to. With regard to multilingual capabilities, ITC Infotech proposed translation of templates which were Excel driven and the system could easily enable Export of blank templates for a particular language. These blank templates would then be circulated to the users at the site to translate in their own language. Once translated, the files could easily be imported into FGS. This simple process ensured that all the labels, error messages, captions, master data etc could be made available in user’s specific language. Also, to start with the project emphasized on the 12 most widely used languages that would cater to almost 98% of the users.
